Queer Language in the Classroom

Happy Pride, y'all! We're celebrating by talking about language and how using loving terminology to talk with people is an important part of a trauma-informed practice.

This training was created to support adult ed teachers and tutors in creating welcoming and safe learning spaces for their queer learners. Regardless of your learner, this training is meant to be a place to ask questions, try new ways of doing things, and build empathy.

We will discuss all those terms you're not sure how to use and give strategies for developing an inclusive classroom We'll also talk about everyone's favorite: pronouns - how to use them, how to ask for them, and how to share them. And we'll offer some suggestions for introducing queer language into your ESL or ABE tutoring session.

This training is part of our Student Support series. Content is designed with tutors and teachers in mind, although everyone is welcome!
