Skill-Builder Writing Series Part 3: Nominalization

Description
About This Workshop
This Skill-Builder Workshop is part 3 of 6 on Writing in Plain Language.
Sometimes when we’re writing, we use more words than necessary to explain our ideas. This is especially true when we’re trying to meet expectations for academic and professional texts. Unfortunately, these extra words can make our writing more difficult to understand.
Avoiding nominalization is one way we can intentionally reduce complexity in our writing.
In this workshop, we'll talk about:
✅ What nominalization is
✅ Why it can make texts more challenging
✅ How to identify and revise nominalization for clearer writing
For our demonstration, we’ll practice identifying and revising several examples of nominalization.
